Boardgames
For those in the ALF (Assisted Living Facility) we choose to do boardgames because of their unique abilities to have people exercise their minds while having personal interactions with each player. As plato said "You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.", and it is this that we aim for, that closeness with others that aren't just residents.
The chosen games are renown for being top sellers for the years they were released for simplicity and how fast games can be played. Knowing that it becomes harder to learn new things as a person gets older we aimed for games that the rules could be explained in less than 3 minutes but still have enough depth to be engaging and not just mundane.
For those who decided to delve into the new experiences we were offering they all really enjoyed it. It was apparent how engaged the people got into the concept of the game and the conversations held over the table as they all competed or worked together with one another so solve what was in front of them.

All the residents saw one another in a new light as they had to think and interact with one another outside of the normal day to day small talk they have when they engage walking through the hall ways. We shared stories about ourselves, discussed events through out time, philosophy, and morals. beyond just playing scrabble and chess they all truly look forward to playing these games with one another and visitors of all ages who plan to come in the future.
