Arts & Crafts

Arts & Crafts was a fun time with the elderly, but not just for them. For us, we got to experience how elders think, process and execute a simple action. From thinking about what to draw to picking up a marker and drawing it in. Cognitive skills with this group was different being that the elders waited for us to tell them what to draw. This is similar to how the employees tell them it's lunch time or time to go to sleep.

For the future, a more efficient way to host this group would be to create a simple art that is easy to follow just by looking at it. If we want the elders to make cards then we will bring one already made and show them how to follow and make one.

We ultimately learned that in the future, the cognitive skills we possess now and take for granted might not be there for us anymore when we become elders. It is an eye opening experience about what life will be like and a value learned from it is compassion for elders.
